Art with a Heart: World Vision holds art auction for children
(by World Vision Philippines  2/10/2016)

Elito Circa, better known as “Amang Pintor,” breathes life into art by using his own blood as medium.

The folk painter believes that painting his blood on canvass creates pieces that symbolize life, love, and sacrifice. One of his most notable pieces -- a personal favorite, is a blood painting of his idol, world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao. Most of his masterpieces also depict rural life in his hometown, Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija.

Now, this painting -- along with other artworks from world-class Filipino artists -- will be up for auction to raise funds for children in need.

World Vision is bringing together philanthropists, artists, and art enthusiasts for a charity art auction at the Manila Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City, Manila on February 10.

At least 85 paintings and pieces mostly from the group Kapatiran at Ugnayan ng Natatanging Sining at Talentong Pilipino (KUNST) will be exhibited. KUNST artists, which include the likes of Rafael Cusi, Ronna Manansala, and Edwin Wilwayco, are renowned around the globe, having won prestigious awards in the international art scene.

“We are grateful that these Filipino artists are giving back to our communities here in the Philippines, considering their international successes. Their patriotism and love for children should inspire more world-class Filipino talents to do the same," says World Vision Director Jun Godornes.

Proceeds from the auction will go to World Vision’s education, health and nutrition, and livelihood programs in Batangas, Negros Occidental and North Cotabato.

Amang Pintor, himself a former World Vision sponsored child, is thrilled to be part of this project.

Circa started painting at a very young age -- his liking for the arts inspired by his father who was a carpenter. Circa knew that painting could be his ticket out of poverty, but his family hardly had money for his schooling.

With the help of World Vision, Circa was able to finish his studies and pursue his love for painting. He is now one of the most in-demand folk painters in the country, famous for using his own blood, and hair, in his works.
